Sofia Pessanha obtained her PhD in Physics by the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon (FCUL) in December 2013, with the theme “Non-destructive characterization of artworks in paper support using spectroscopic techniques”, supervised by Professor Maria Luisa Carvalho. She is now a post-doc fellow at LIBPhys-UNL and an invited professor in the Physics Department of the Faculty of Sciences and Technology of the New University of Lisbon (FCT-UNL) in charge of supervising master students projects in Physics Engineering and Biomedical Engineering.
Was a collaborator of the former Atomic Physics Centre of the University of Lisbon (now LIBPhys-UNL) since 2005 and works with X-Ray Fluorescence and Raman spectroscopy in material characterization of biological samples, environmental studies and toxicology and artworks. Her most recent fields of interest is the application of spectroscopic techniques to Dentistry research.
Up until now, has 64 publications in peer reviewed scientific journals, all related to applied physics, and has participated with both oral and poster presentations in over 35 international conferences.
